I saw buttercup foliage [Ranunculus glaberrimus] on January 01, 2012. I did not see it on January 10th and 11th. I suppose it was burned up in the cold?

The mission today was to look for it again. All most all of it was ‘buried’ in protective grass and detritus.

The photograph of the larger R. glaberrimus foliage looks like it may have a bud developing. I didn’t notice that in the field. If I remember correctly it was on the rock where we saw the first buttercups last year. I’ll try to find it again.

The only Lomatium gormanii blossoms I saw were the same two I saw on January 10th. They look unchanged. Neither cold nor snow cover effected them.

I need to read about mosses.
*

I walked through both ‘ponds’. Not a drop of water in either though there were puddles elsewhere.
*

I located the husks of the first Lomatium macrocarpum I found last year. No sign of foliage developing.
*

I was only out about 45 minutes. I arrived around 4 p. m. The sky was clear. The light was still strong. No wind.

What are the organs we see here?
